Cerebral tumour causing hydrocephalus with filling defect of the temporal horn.

چکیده
The important diagnostic significance of filling defects of the temporal horn is well illustrated in the two cases here described. Both patients were middle-aged men with few neurological signs but with raised intracranial pressure and a moderate increase in cerebrospinal fluid cells and protein. In both cases the local cerebral symptomatology indicated a diencephalic disturbance. Ventriculograms showed extensive internal hydrocephalus with no significant lateral shift of midline structures but with filling defects and dislocation of the temporal horn. Although there was hydrocephalus, there was sufficient patency of the fluid pathways to permit the air introduced into the lateral ventricles to fill the fourth ventricle and cisterna magna. In Case 1 (Figs. 1, 2, 3) the deformity of the temporal horn is easily seen; in Case 2 (Figs. 7 and 8) it is minimal. Post-mortem examination in both cases revealed ependymoblastoma, which had deeply invaded the brain without causing much displacement. There were numerous secondary deposits throughout the walls of ventricular cavities, with the primary growth in relation to the left temporal horn in each instance, causing the filling defects. Some of the seedlings had caused partial obstruction of cerebrospinal fluid circulation. The deposits which caused obstruction were too small to have been detectable by pneumography.

Choroid Plexus Papilloma Arising From the Temporal Horn With a Bilateral Hypersecretory Hydrocephalus: A Case Report and Review of Literature
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the cerebral ventricular system is secreted by a neuroepithelial tissue which is called as the choroid plexus. Tumors arising from these tissues are rare. Choroid plexus papillomas (CPPs) have been denoted as WHO grade I of the choroid plexus tumors. Among the intracranial tumors, neoplasms of the choroid plexus constitute around 0.36-0.6%. CPPs are mostly slow ...
متن کاملThe large temporal horn: MR analysis in developmental brain anomalies versus hydrocephalus.
PURPOSE To utilize MR to delineate the morphologic abnormalities of the temporal horn and adjacent structures in patients with congenital brain anomalies and to differentiate these findings from the temporal horn alterations in obstructive hydrocephalus. متن کاملEntrapment of the temporal horn: a form of focal obstructive hydrocephalus.
Three cases of a form of focal hydrocephalus are described which the authors term "entrapment of the temporal horn". Obstruction of one lateral ventricle in the region of the trigone isolates the temporal horn. Continued secretion of cerebrospinal fluid within the temporal horn causes it to behave as a mass lesion. In the cases described the causes of the condition were recurrent glioma, previo...

Little is known regarding progressive enlargement of the ventricular system in symptomatic patients or asymptomatic subjects. Before eventual surgical treatment, we evaluated the clinical and radiological features of an extremely rare group of patients with idiopathic chronic hydrocephalus (ICH) and cognitive impairment evolving to dementia (n = 11), and an extremely rare group of asymptomatic ...

It is frequent cause of seizures and hydrocephalus in adults from endemic regions, including Brazil. Brain parenchymal involvement occurs in 60 to 92% of patients with NCC, but intraventricular (IV) les...
